Describe a happy event of your life

You should say:
  • what it was
  • when it happened
  • where it happened
and explain why it was a happy event.

You will have one to two minutes to speak about the topic. You have one minute to consider what you will say. If you want, you can make some notes to help you.

Possible Answer 1

I can recall many joyful occasions in my life, but I want to focus on the one that is most vividly associated with my passing the board exam. I was the happiest man in the world when I learned that I had received a scholarship based on my achievement on the board exam. The fact that I had finally accomplished what I had been working toward and that the news had made my parents pleased and proud made this a very wonderful time for me.

I was quite anxious about the release of my results for about a month. I started speculating about a lot of things, most of which were bad. I struggled to control my anxiety about my impending result. The outcome was so crucial that it would mostly determine whether I could enroll in college. In the night before the results were published, I had trouble sleeping. I believe that students frequently experience this kind of anxiety, and I have experience with it myself. But more than any other moment in my life, these exam results have given me nightmares.
When the results were made public at about 11:00 am, I discovered that I performed remarkably well. I shouted out loud because I was so relieved and delighted. I quickly left and returned to our house so that I could inform my parents. They too were content. My mother gave the candy that my father had purchased for our neighbors. I experienced joy, elation, and relief. I was around 15 years old at the time. It occurred in our hometown, which goes by the name of (... state your hometown...)

Possible Answer 2

I have been grateful to God ever since I first grasped the concept of a higher power for the countless blessings that have enriched my life. When we can spread joy by communicating good news to others, everyone wins. Therefore, I appreciate the chance to tell you about one such joyful occurrence here.

It happened in my hometown a few years ago, when I was extremely preoccupied with finding a new career after having recently left my former one and feeling like I had neither the time nor the motivation to help anyone else. But that wasn't going to happen, because I was also a "founder member" of a local "charity" group in my hometown that helped those in need, especially those who were terminally sick. When I found out via members of my charity club that a local resident had been diagnosed with "blood cancer" and needed a large sum of money (which he didn't have because of his very poor financial situation) to get proper treatment, I knew I had to act quickly to gather enough money for him. The goal of raising such a large number of money in such a short time was not simple; we had to knock on every door in my village to ask for donations. Regardless, we prevailed in the end, and the highlight of my life was when the doctor told me the patient would continue to live for a while more.

During a time when he had lost all hope, I was able to restore a terminally ill man's quality of life by saving his life and reuniting him with his family. In addition, the experience taught me that with teamwork, we can overcome any "mountain" of issues.

Whenever I think about the day I went to the International trade fair with some of my friends, I get this warm, fuzzy feeling in my face. That was the first international trade expo I had ever been to, and I still get excited just thinking about it. In January of 1998, I had just started my freshman year of college.

I was a young lady who had never been out of her hometown till I graduated college. After being accepted to college, I began learning about the world and all the wonderful opportunities it offers to people like me. At one point, I organized a trip to a trade show with several buddies. For others, what I just described might seem mundane, but it was actually rather thrilling. A while later, we confirmed our predictions and completed our trip to the expo. There was a break in the college schedule, so we sneaked out the back door (I should stress that I had never before been caught trying to flee a classroom). There were five of us total, so we decided to take a taxi to the convention center. The taxi driver eyed us suspiciously, and there was no room for us in the rear. Because of this, we decided that one of us would ride shotgun in the baby taxi with the driver, a choice we made while maintaining a fishy grin. We laughed it off because we had no other choice, but it turned out to be a good idea anyway.

Within a short time, we had arrived at the fairgrounds and were picking up our tickets. Everything we did at the time was incredibly fun. We calmed ourselves by taking a big breath as we entered the fair. Looking around at all the stalls and shops, we felt a little overwhelmed. There were people everywhere, and it felt like we'd landed in a fairy tale. I was overjoyed at every destination because I was experiencing it all for the first time in my adult life. We explored every inch of the fairgrounds, snapped photos from every angle, and picked up a few trinkets that piqued our interest for a total of less than $100. I was happy again for the first time in a long time, and I forgot about my regular routine and the constraints of my customary environment. We were there for about four to five hours total before heading back home that night. I was so overjoyed on the bus ride back to our hometown that I felt like I'd just discovered an entirely new continent.

Without a question, we live in a very modern, difficult, and confusing world where time is of the essence. Nonetheless, we take time out of our hectic schedules to escape the boredom of our daily routines in order to make our lives a little more colorful and intriguing whenever the opportunity arises. And what an occasion it was in 2010 that turned out to be one of the most joyous occurrences of my life!

It was the spring semester of 2010 at a local college in my home nation of Australia, and I was quite preoccupied with my coursework and studies. Naturally, actively participating in an event such as a "inter-college" cooking competition was the last thing on my mind, unless, of course, the event will be televised live on a television channel, as I was informed to my happy surprise. Everyone is entitled to their 15 minutes of fame. So, when I was invited to participate in the event (possibly because of my previous records and initiatives in organizing a couple of picnics for my class), I became very excited with a dose of nervousness in the mix - excited at the prospect of being shown on TV, happy to experience something new, and nervous because I wasn't a very good cook even on my best day.

I began my preparation for cooking competition triumph with a full-fledged invasion of my mother's kitchen, as I desperately needed to improve my cooking talents. I was spending more time in our kitchen, practicing some of my favorite meals, than I was paying attention in class. My passion for the cooking event was not surprising, but what astonished me was that my parents, who were often chastising me for not studying enough, were now inspiring and assisting me in my cooking endeavor! I guess they (my parents) wanted to be a part of my culinary success as well! After all, how many parents are so fortunate to have the opportunity to see their children on television? I was ecstatic to be preparing for the tournament, and the idea of doing well kept me going.

So, the competition was on, and I poured all of my cooking talents and experience into it. I am glad to say that I did not disappoint my parents or my college by finishing second in that competition. The perseverance and hard work had finally paid off! It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance that may have only lasted a couple of hours, but I will remember it for the rest of my life since it was a genuine confidence booster and one of the happiest times of my life.

Discussion

Q. What do you think is important in achieving happiness?
Answer: I am a firm believer that simple yet priceless things like health, family solidarity and closeness, key people like friends who will always be there for you no matter what, and job fulfillment can all lead to happiness. I disagree with the notion that money makes everyone happy and prosperous. Although money and riches are important aspects of human life since they allow people to meet their bills, do things they desire, and buy stuff they want, I do not believe they are the determining factors. Furthermore, self-satisfaction may be a key factor in our happiness. We can only be pleased with what we have if we have self-satisfaction and self-contentment.

Q. How do you celebrate some happy events?
Answer : When I was younger, I used to throw parties at my house for just my family and relatives. My mother cooked my favorite delicacies and baked my favorite chocolate birthday cake for me, especially on my birthdays. Now that I'm no longer a teenager, I hang out with my friends and, in some cases, with my family. On my graduation day, for example, I went to a Greek restaurant with my parents, brother, and five best friends, and we had a fantastic day. In general, I would describe myself as an introvert, thus I would much rather spend time with a few close friends than with many people and traditional partnerships. My joy and festivities are also linked to my friends and family members.

Q. What role the camera and video play in celebrating?
Answer: I would claim that these two technologies, camera and video, are essential in many forms of celebrations. To begin with, most people have memories of their youth that are captured in cameras. To illustrate, some of the most important events, such as birthday parties, weddings, and graduations, are included in these jigs, allowing the moment to be preserved and saved for a long time. Furthermore, when some important and joyous events are documented, they can be used and shown years later to help some people recall important occurrences. In my situation, on my 22nd birthday, my pals created me an incredibly emotional film montage of all the years we've been friends. This would not have been possible without the use of a camera and video recorder.

If you can talk about this cue card, you should be able to answer the following cue cards as well:
  • Describe a memorable event of your life.
  • Talk about an event that made you happy.
  • Describe a happy memory you have.
  • Describe a success you achieved in your life.
